As a former teacher, I know mindsets are half of the battle. And to your point, mindsets are inherited. The power of teaching is that every subject is a Black subject of a Black person is teaching it to Black children. ✊🏽

I knew this was one I’d have to read with an open heart cuz ik y’all talkin bout me 😳. I despised math in school and am from a family of “we’re not math people” 🤷🏾 who shrug at algebra problems

This comment means a lot. Reading with an open heart is the hard part, and you did it… You are already breaking the cycle of math phobia it just by reading this differently than you would have a week ago.

I love how you brought language to mathematics. Growing up, I adopted this phobia and I see how it has limited my perceived capabilities.

I was great in language arts, history, ect. but always struggled with math in school all the way through college.

I’m also a musician, exploring the math in music is a world that I have been hesitating to enter for too long.

The portal is right in front of me. Thank you for expanding my knowledge and pursuit.

Btw does anyone offer any math classes for adults?

Eye opening. I’m guilty of convincing myself I’m not a “math person”, which is very ironic seeing as I’m an accountant. I’m actually excellent with numbers in general. “Why have I worked so hard to keep myself from living in that reality?” — Currently pondering this. #LanguageBarriers

This shook me. I’ve been deeply math-phobic for years, and like you pointed out, it runs in the family. Thank you for this. Thank you for what you do.
