My favorite: “I grew up being told we could do EVERYTHING and people were still surprised when I did ANYTHING.”

Precisely this. 🔥

Welp, your essay clearly stayed in my brain because I ended up writing a whole response from the Black AuDHD side of the equation. 😂 Too Black in one room, not Black enough in another, and apparently doing autism wrong somewhere in between. Thanks for inadvertently sending me down the rabbit hole, Brian. https://substack.com/@callmeifyougetoverstimulated/note/c-310111498?r=8jdt0n&utm_medium=ios&utm_source=notes-share-action

Me, the two Erica’s and the two Jens were 5 of only a handful of Black people at our HS. We decided to integrate the ski club. I remember my BK and down south fam being like thats YT people 💩. And years later, them same people joined the National Brotherhood of ⛷️ skiiers—-that’s all Black people 💩😉.

I love this so much— it parallels so many of my own experiences. We are not a monolith, and we deserve to explore all aspects of our imaginations. Especially bc we are so damn creative!!!
