I was 16 and already a die-hard TDE fan. I had made my decision years prior to support my choice in the Big 3, one Kendrick Lamar, and thus his whole camp. I don’t think it was a bad choice, from 2011-2014, TDE was running shit with seminal works from Kendrick and Schoolboy Q and underground classics from Ab-Soul and Jay Rock. When the label announced that they were signing two more artists, it was objectively a big deal as Top Dawg seemed to have the Midas Touch. It wasn’t really a question if these new artists would be dope, of course they were, but it would stand to be seen if they would reach the heights that Black Hippy got to. And in late 2013, it was announced that TDE had signed SZA from New Jersey and Isaiah Rashad from Chattanooga.
